I have been practicing midwifery for 26 years, have attended over 1000 births as an apprentice, doula, and labor support, and since 1983 have had my own practice.
The following is a brief summary of my training and experience:
1979: One year of study at Uchee Pines Medical Missionary Institute under Dr. Agatha Thrash. This included class work, births, prenatal and well woman care at the Health Department in Alabama.
An apprenticeship with a granny midwife in rural Alabama who delivered over 4000 babies and six of her own sixteen children.
One year apprenticeship with a FARM midwife in Tennessee.
1990: Became a licensed massage therapist.
Completed courses in the following areas of expertise: home health aide, phlebotomy, intravenous (IV) therapy, suturing and water birth workshops.
Studied with International School of Midwifery in Jamaica, West Indies, attending approximately 100 births including deliveries of breeches, twins, and "preemies".
Currently certified in CPR and neonatal resuscitation.
1997: Certified Professional Midwife by the state of Tennessee.
